This is a question Phobias

What gives you the heebie-jeebies?

It's a bit strong to call this a phobia, but for me it's the thought of biting into a dry flannel. I've no idea why I'd ever want to or even get the opportunity to do so, seeing as I don't own one, but it makes my teeth hurt to think about it. *ewww*

Tell us what innocent things make you go pale, wobbly and send shivers down your spine.

This is a question reply Heh.
This isn't exactly a phobia, just a button to press.

There's a certain recent member than can be made to go spastic if you use one certain word.

PAEDOPHILE!!

I've had a couple of drunken Sunday afternoons drinking with her when this subject has come up.

Check replies for explanation.

If she bites that is...

Cheers

This is a question reply BASTARDISATION
THAT'S WHAT IT IS. BOILS MY FECKIN' PISS!!

Many English words *come* from the Greek language. Especially the medical ones:
neurology: nevra=nerves + logikos = the study of.
gynaecology: gynaeka = woman, study of.
colostomy (my favourite): kolos = arse + stoma = mouth / opening

Then there are the likes of francoplile, meaning one who likes/loves all things French.

NOW my bowels are really getting in an uproar!!!

CUNTING GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!

Paedophile.

Paidia = children

Philos = friend / friendly.

THE CORRECT TRANSLATION MEANS "ONE WHO LIKES (AND IS FRIENDLY TO) CHILDREN.

I AM THEREFORE A FUCKING PAEDOPHILE IN THE CORRECT SENSE OF THE WORD BECAUSE I LIKE CHILDREN. I WORK WITH THEM AND HAVE ONE OF MY OWN.

*breaks into sweat*

(Yeah, I know, "pigs sweat, men perspire and ladies glow" - I am sweating like a pig in anger!

*fumes* and *stinks* simultaneously

is a Greek word.
"Beta" is pronounced "veta", so, really, phovia = fear.

*performs deep breathing exercises, NOT involving Marlboro*

Eeeeek, Legless you blighter!

(, Thu 10 Apr 2008, 16:06, )

Sorry Tourette's, as much as I think you are pretty neato, that was funny.

Oh, and mean. A really mean thing to do!
*giggles more*
(, Fri 11 Apr 2008, 4:43, )
This is a question reply ^Tourette's^
Agreed! Paedophile is completely the wrong word to use for the concept people use it for. A better term would be 'paederast'(= paidi-child + erastis-lover), but people use that specifically gay boy loving. Pisses me off too!

Also, Gynaecology - Woman arse studies, hurr hurr hurr.

*gets coat*
*relurk*
(, Fri 11 Apr 2008, 12:49, )
This is a question reply Call them what they are...
Child molesters. They don't deserve a scientific term to describe them...
(, Fri 11 Apr 2008, 13:46, )
This is a question reply It don't bother me none but...
...I know someone who fumes every time they hear word television.

- suitable pause -

because "tele" is from the Greek, and "vision" comes from the Latin!!! It's like bolting the back end of a Ford to the front end of a BMW or something.

Ah well, see you later folks. I'm off.
