Misuse thereof, usually when whichever barely coherent pond scum perpetrated said travesty really should have used 'figuratively'.

On the way back from Glastonbury last year
sitting in a five-hour traffic jam, listening to BBC Radio Yokel or whatever they play near Stonehenge, the same news report came on every bloody half hour about a couple who had "literally found a new world beneath their back garden".

My phone had run out of battery during the festival so I couldn't even ring up and vent my spleen at the useless cunts. What they had "literally" found beneath their back garden was an old bomb shelter - a new world would have been much bigger, I suspect.
