American Tan tights (pantyhose for the septics). Remember them? It seemed like everybody's mum wore them in the 70s. They all wore brown Clarks shoes as well, and they all looked identical from the knee down.

My mother used to make me wear Polyvelts - gobbing fecking pastie shoes. AAAAARGH!

I have to buy Clarks snotting sensible shoes now, as I have arthritis and walk like Jar Jar Binks if I try to wear heels. Yuk.

you can still get American tan tights
As a young un' i was in a performing arts school. not a full time one, just on a saturday learning dancing acting etc. We used to put on performances at Christmas and we had to have american tan tights.
i also noticed them i n the convenience store i used to work in a few years ago.
