also have that suspicion about batteries, but Dell US seem to think I can get it replaced once the existing warranty is transferred to the right country, I'm cynical but it's worth a try before I pay out myself

I can find generic replacement batteries for just about anything
for a fraction of the manufacturers price.
I pay £24.99 for 3.0A batteries for my cordless DeWalt tools. De Walt want over £60 for 2.0A versions.
